SEEFED MACEDONIA:
FINANCING MUNICIPAL ENVIRONMENTAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS

Picture
Environmental issues have not been amongst the top national priorities in the Western Balkan countries. Understandably, priorities to date have focused on the reforms needed to strengthen security, rebuild the economy and to improve general living conditions. As a result, much-needed investment in environmental infrastructure such as waste/water treatment, air pollution abatement and monitoring, and industrial and communal waste management are still waiting their turn. Clearly, this is a situation that raises humanitarian, social, economic and environmental concerns.

The seminars of “Financing municipal environmental infrastructure projects” aim to present the financing opportunities for Macedonian municipalities and provide them with practical knowledge needed when applying for EU funds , loans and other types of possible funds for the projects. Relevant experts from the EU and Macedonia  will hold two day seminars with groups of approximately 30 representatives of Macedonian municipalities.

SEEFED's partners in this project are: Ministry of Environment and physical planning of the Republic of Macedonia, Ministry of Local self governments of the Republic of Macedonia, ZELS, Embassy of Sweden, Drisla Skopje, The Netherlands Mission to the Republic of Macedonia and Karpoš (Skopje) Municipality. This SEEFED event is held under auspices of the Open days 2012, organized by the Committee of the Regions and European Commission, where SEEFED, even this year, successfully holds the position of Local Partner to the Committee of the Regions.
